Tri-Counties XC Championships

2020 - 2021 Tri-County Cross-Country Championships

The Avon Cross-Country Championships for 2020 - 2021 would normally be held as part of the Tri-County Cross-Country event (also involving the Somerset and Wiltshire Championships) in December.

The three Counties have concluded that they would be unable to stage in December 2020 the sort of event they would like to promote assuming that the UKA / EA restrictions in place in late October would still be in effect.

The South-West Championships are scheduled for Sunday 3rd January 2021 at Aldon Hill, Yeovil, and arrangements are in hand. Depending on the meeting format, it may be possible to decide the various County Championships on the basis of race results at Yeovil. One option being considered (whether Yeovil goes ahead or not) is a Tri-Counties-type event in February or March 2021.

Meeting Notes:

  1. In a normal season, the first three Somerset or Avon finishers in each race (U13 and upwards) would receive automatic selection for the Avon & Somerset team for the UK CAU Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships (Saturday 20th February, Prestwold Park, near Loughborough). (Note that athletes born between 1st September and 31st December 2001 were eligible for the Under-20 races at the Tri-Counties and South-West Championships but not for the Junior races at the UK CAU). However this is far from a normal season, and we cannot guarantee that the Tri-Counties event, or even the UK CAU Championships themselves, will go ahead.

  2. Please note that:
    •
    • Birth/Residence in the South Gloucestershire Council area is a qualifying condition for Avon but not Gloucestershire
    •
    • Birth/Residence in the BANES Council area is a qualifying condition for Avon but not Somerset
    •
    • Birth/Residence in the North Somerset Council area is a qualifying condition for Avon but not Somerset

  3. Masters athletes are only eligible for the medal appropriate to their actual age group, unless they contact the Secretary before the event notifying him that they wish to contest the Senior event instead.

  4. Assume that any Championship closing date will be rigidly adhered to, and that your parent / coach / Club Secretary / County Secretary etc. has no way of securing a late entry.
